How To Quickly Lower Your Stress Levels

Stress is everywhere, and no one seems immune to it. However, you might have noticed that some people deal with stress better than others, and perhaps you want to know how it’s possible. It could be that they are just generally laidback people, but they might use various little ‘tricks’ to help them stay calm, even when things might be stressful to someone else. Read on to find out what some of these tricks are so you can keep them in mind and use them when things get too much sometimes.

Exercise

When you’re feeling stressed, taking a break from whatever it is you’re doing and getting some exercise in is a great idea. Of course, it’s good for your physical health, and everyone needs to do more activity in their lives, but the fact is that exercise also has a great effect on your mental health and can de-stress you when you’re feeling overwhelmed.

To begin with, if you’re exercising, you’re taking a break from what you were doing – the thing that was causing you stress (this might be an activity, or perhaps you were just thinking about something stressful). That’s the first thing that will help as you’re no longer focusing on an issue but thinking about exercising instead. As well as this, exercise releases endorphins into the body, which are a natural way to reduce stress and boost the mood. Even if you can only go for a short walk rather than get a full gym workout in, that’s going to help.

Remember

You’ll have heard people say that making memories is important, but it might not be until you’re stressed that you realize just why that is. The next time you’re feeling overwhelmed and upset, take a step back and start thinking about good memories from the past. Perhaps you’ll think of when you went to resorts in Waikiki Hawaii with your family, a fun party you went to, that time you met your favorite celebrity, or anything else that makes you smile.

The very act of remembering good times and feeling happy about them can reduce your stress levels massively and instantly. As with exercising, you’ll be focusing on something other than the problem, and you’ll release serotonin into your bloodstream. Plus, having good memories will remind you that life isn’t all bad and that you can get past this challenge and move on to better things in the future.

Go To Bed

It can sometimes be that you’re getting stressed because you’re tired, and if you stopped working or worrying and went to bed, by the time you get up the next day, your mind will be clearer, and you’ll have a much better idea of what you need to do. That’s why it can be best to go to bed when you’re feeling incredibly stressed. Of course, it might be hard to get to sleep because of the stress, so you’ll need a good bedtime routine to help calm you down, and this could include herbal tea or a milky drink, listening to some music, reading a book, or perhaps writing in a journal.

If you’re feeling stressed and it’s not bedtime, a nap can still be a good idea. At the very least, have a lie-down and meditate or take the time to bring up the memories mentioned earlier. Just taking a break can be all that’s needed to help you.
